Xanthelasma are soft, yellowish deposits that appear on or around the eyelids. They are made up of cholesterol and are generally harmless, but they can become noticeable and affect the appearance of the eyes.
These deposits are more common in adults and may be associated with higher cholesterol levels, though they can also occur in people with normal cholesterol.
Treatment with advanced electrolysis (electrocautery) carefully removes the deposit by gently cauterising the tissue. A small scab will form and naturally heal over 7–14 days, leaving the area smoother and more even.
